Nga Maunga is an original acrylic painting born from a moment of recognition — the kind that stops you mid-journey and says: this is meant for you.
Travelling south to their new home in Shannon, Sheree Wills and her husband passed the great volcanic peaks of Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe, and she felt an undeniable pull. These were not just mountains. For Sheree, of Ngāti Maniapoto and Cook Island descent, they were the ancestral landmarks of her tīpuna’s world. For her husband, of Tūwharetoa, they were home — the sacred maunga at the very heart of his people’s territory.
Together, they are Nga Maunga — the mountains. Ancient, volcanic, alive. Painted in bold greens, fiery oranges, intense reds, and golden yellows, the canvas captures not just their physical drama but their spiritual weight.
This painting holds two whakapapa, one canvas, and a moment on the road that could not be ignored.
Original acrylic on canvas — 102 x 55 x 3.5 cm. One of a kind.
